Acclaimed and noted choreographer and dance visionary Ashley Lobo is set to represent India yet again on a global platform with his contemporary work ‘Amaara – A Journey of Love’. Ashley along with his contemporary dance company Navdhara India Dance Theatre (NIDT) is in the top 50 applicants to have been selected from over 600 applications from across the world to perform at the world’s biggest contemporary dance gathering, the ‘’.
The Internationale Tanzmesse NRW 2018 hosts the largest professional gathering dedicated exclusively to contemporary dance from multiple countries across the world without consisting of any specific geographical focus. Showcasing dance performances over four days, it consists of artists from the continents of Europe, America, Africa and Asia. It is a space where companies, artists, choreographers, local governments and agencies, programmers, festival and venue managers find an equal opportunity to present their work or represent artists with over 1900 professionals attending the event.
The Festival Programme of the Tanzmesse is an opportunity for Tanzmesse Exhibitors to present their work live, in the form of fully produced performances or in the form of open studios, on eleven of the best stages for dance in Düsseldorf. The selection of performances takes place by an open application process whereby 50 applications are selected from over 600 submitted proposals by the International Tanzmesse board of jury members. And Ashley’s NIDT is one among these 50 entries selected to showcase their work, ‘Amaara – A Journey of Love’.
Ashley Lobo is naturally ecstatic about the selection as he feels that it is a great platform to perform and carve a place of prominence in the international market. Says Ashley, “It’s a big moment, not only for us but also for Indian contemporary dance. We are thrilled to be performing at the largest dance gathering of contemporary dance professionals in the world. What makes it even more special is that we have been assigned the Capitol Theatre in Dusseldorf for our performance, which is biggest and most prestigious theatre in the entire Tanzmesse.”
With all the dignitaries from the world of contemporary dance, especially from Europe attending the conference and looking out for the best in contemporary dance choreography, this conference would further open new doors of opportunities for dance groups and artists to be a part of other dance festivals and projects.
The Internationale Tanzmesse NRW 2018 which is held once in every two years will take place between August 29th and September 1st in Düsseldorf, Germany.
