Tomorrow is trailer launch of Golmaal franchise ‘Golmaal Again’. On this occasion Unsung Bollywood decided to look back at ‘Golmaal’ journey of Rohit Shetty, Ajay Devgn, Arshad Warsi, Tusshar Kapoor, Shreyas Talpade, and team, which was started in 2006.

Golmaal: Fun Unlimited – on 14 July 2006, comedy film directed by Rohit Shetty and written by Neeraj Vora was released starring Ajay Devgn, Arshad Warsi, Sharman Joshi, Tusshar Kapoor and Rimi Sen in lead roles. The opening credits of the movie revealed that the story was based on the Gujarati play Aflatoon by Mihir Bhuta and Neeraj Vora adapted from Harsh Shivsharan’s original Marathi play Ghar-Ghar.

The film released and received generally positive reviews from the critics, and turned out to be a surprise hit at the box office.

Golmaal Returns- On 29 October 2008, the film spawned a sequel, Golmaal Returns with Ajay Devgn, Tusshar Kapoor and Arshad Warsi reprising their roles, whilst Shreyas Talpade replaced the role originally played by Sharman Joshi. The film also features Kareena Kapoor, Amrita Arora and Celina Jaitley in supporting roles.

Golmaal Returns was remake of Marathi film Pheka Pheki starring Ashok Saraf and Laxmikant Berde. Where the role of Ashok Saraf is played by Ajay Devgn and the role of Laxmikant Berde is played by Shreyas Talpade in this film. The film’s storyline also meets that one of 1973 film, Aaj Ki Taaza Khabar.

Produced by Dhillin Mehta under Shree Ashtavinayak Cine Vision LTD, Golmaal Returns received mixed response from critics. However, managed to do very well at the box office.

Golmaal 3 (G3)- On 5 November 2010, the film spawned an sequel Golmaal 3, which became the second highest grossing Bollywood film of 2010. third film in the Golmaal series. The film stars most of the actors from the previous films, including Ajay Devgan, Kareena Kapoor, Arshad Warsi, Tusshar Kapoor and Shreyas Talpade. New additions to the cast include actors Mithun Chakraborty, Ratna Pathak and Kunal Khemu. It was reportedly inspired by Basu Chatterjee’s Khatta Meetha wherein Ashok Kumar and Pearl Padamsee played an old couple marrying with children from their previous marriages, and film’s rights were later bought over.

In 2014, a Telugu feature film Pandavulu Pandavulu Tummada is a remake of Golmaal with top actors like Mohan Babu, Manchu Vishnu, Manchu Manoj, Varun Sandesh, Raveena Tandon.

Golmaal Again- scheduled for a worldwide release on 20 October 2017, on a Diwali weekend, It features Ajay Devgn and Parineeti Chopra in the lead roles with Arshad Warsi, Tusshar Kapoor, Tabu, Prakash Raj, Shreyas Talpade, Kunal Khemu and Neil Nitin Mukesh in supporting roles. Golmaal Again is the fourth installment of the Golmaal film franchise.

The production of the film began in July 2016 and principal photography commenced in March 2017 in Mumbai.
